Scrunchie Success

Seven-year-old entrepreneur successfully sells scrunchies for Noel Design

In the 1980s everybody who was anybody was wearing the fashionable scrunchie for a trendy updo. The scrunchie is still totally popular today. In fact, so popular, one can start a business from making and selling scrunchies.

Reagan Noel Egli has made her own business, Noel Designs, from selling handmade scrunchies — ranging from an affordable price of $3 to an $8 steal. Starting in October of 2024, this blooming business is an example of hard work, creativity, and a knack for fashion.

Reagan is a very tenacious first grader. Like most young adults, video games are essential to growing up. Reagan asked her parents for a Nintendo Switch. Her parents gladly agreed to the purchase of the Switch, if she would read 100 books in return. Reagan began reading, which at first was not so easy, as she was diagnosed with a mild form of dyslexia. However, with hard work, she went from reading step-books to chapter books.

However, part of the deal with her parents was that Reagan had to figure out a way to pay for her own games and accessories. That’s when the scrunchie business was born. Reagan worked hard learning how to make scrunchies over the summer and now makes her scrunchies almost completely by herself. While she is close to her goal to buy her accessories, this business has turned into something she enjoys and plans on continuing even after she gets her Switch. She plans on sewing a new themed collection of scrunchies every month.

The entrepreneurial drive all started when Reagan was young, 4 years old. She started her first business selling brownies and flowers to her friends as gifts to their moms. Reagan designed her own booth, and with the help of her dad’s carpentry, began selling flowers from the stand. Just 30 minutes in, the booth was flooded with buyers, and within three hours, they were sold out.

“Reagan naturally loves talking to people and is a salesperson already,” said Madelyn Egli, Reagan’s mom. “Sometimes I wish she would teach me some of her skills!”
